Re: FortisBC Rate Increases

A Joint Council comprised of the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS), and the Chiefs of Penticton Indian Band, Lower Similkameen Indian Band and Osoyoos Indian Band held a meeting on January 31, 2014, where FortisBC rate increases were discussed.

The Joint Council expressed concern regarding the current and proposed rate increases, the British Columbia Utilities Commission’s reaction and the lack of response from Fortis regarding requests for consultation and referral. The Joint Council also expressed concern regarding a potential dam being constructed within Electoral Area “H” in the RDOS.

Due to the challenge customers face with rising energy costs, heat and electricity have become a luxury in British Columbia.

The Joint Council would respectfully request the Premier provide an update with respect to FortisBC rate increases.
