Over the last week Osoyoos has experienced a rash of thefts and break in’s that appear to be the work of traveling criminals. Please lock vehicles and call Police about any suspicious people or vehicles.
January 21st, two Fortis transformers were reported stolen from Hwy 3 / Empire Rd. A white Astro van with a utility trailer had been seen in the area and may be related. One of the transformers was recovered after it was dismantled for metal in Keremeos.
January 25th, a tool shed at the rear of a property on the 5400 block of 31st St, had the lock cut from the door and 2 Stihl chainsaws and a Briggs and Stratton generator were stolen.
January 25th, a fruit picker cabin on the 6000 block of 31st St, was broken into and fuel was stolen from tidy tanks. Locks from the fuel tidy tanks had been cut allowing the fuel to be stolen.
January 25th, thieves attempted to Break into a fifth wheel trailer on the 3800 block of Lakeshore Dr. The window of the trailer was broken out but the thieves did not get inside the trailer. The thief cut themselves on the window and Police are analyzing the blood DNA to try and identify the thief.
January 26 th, overnight thieves entered an unlocked truck canopy at the back of the Best Western and stole two suitcases of clothing, a green cooler, and a blue plastic bin full of food from Costco.
January 26th , overnight thieves entered an unlocked vehicle on the 4200 block of Oleander Dr and stole a Tom Tom GPS and charging cable.
January 26th, residents returned from work to find that thieves had forced open a patio door and entered their home on the 3600 block of 97th St and stole a television from the home.
Sometime over the weekend 2 vehicles owned by Osoyoos Coyotes hockey players were broken into at the Sunbowl Arena. The vehicles were left at the arena while the team was on a road trip. Windows were broken out and items were stolen including expensive sunglasses and a radar detector.
January 25th, Osoyoos RCMP recovered a safe from the side of the hill at the Highway 3 view point west of Osoyoos. The safe had been stolen, pried open, and dumped at the view point. The safe is being examined for evidence by the Police.
