Lloyd Park (Home of Every Blooming Thing): Two of the sign owners have approached me telling me they had letters from the RDOS. “Quinta Ferreira and Silver Sage are concerned about the signs coming down” says Park. I have done nothing to hurt the area and act like a tourist info booth based on the number of people who stop at Rd. 9 for directions.
“All the signs are on my property.” I have a letter from the Agricultural Land Commission saying I am in compliance with the Act.
John Hofman (Integra Tire): According the land owner on Highway 97 – I have to take my sign down.
RDOS staff and counterparts from the Ministry of Transportation will attempt to clear a 10-kilometre stretch of Highway 97 between Road 1 and Road 21 south of Oliver. 141 signs have been targeted to be removed.
“It’s a driver distraction,” said Jeff Wiseman, regional manager for MOTI….”the sheer number of signs has become a safety issue.” “The signs also distract from official notices that indicate speed limits or upcoming hazards says Wiseman.
The bpilot project has begun and property owners in the targeted area will receive letters asking them to remove their signs. Compliance will be enforced by having Argo RD Maintenance take down the signs after a further 30 days.
