Town council requested last week that the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society hold an open meeting with the public and dog owners who use the community park to attend.
The issue is “off-leash” use of the main part of the community park and a request to change the Town bylaw (Animal Control Bylaw 1244) – that allows certain areas designated for owners to set the dog loose.
A petition from dog owners was received by council asking that the bylaw be left alone because it gives a number of options for “off leash” activities at the community centre.
The OPRS was suggesting that the “off leash” area be confined area – Diamonds 4 and 5 – which is fenced so that walkers and joggers are not affected.
The meeting will be February 17 at 6 pm – with a regular meeting the Parks Board to follow. All are welcome.
