Last Friday – emergencies in Osoyoos and Oliver required the services of firemen, police officers and paramedics…..including air ambulances.
Ray Whitten: For half an hour there were 2 choppers on the lawn outside the hospital. Both helicopters were loaded with patients and left. Total of 3 patients transferred that day – who they were we do not know.
Now we do.
On Friday morning, the regular seniors hockey group were having fun on the ice at the arena when one of the players fell to his knees and collapsed on the ice.
Marty Whiteman: Harold Cox of Osoyoos was the man. Another player began performing CPR as there was no pulse or breathing. The staff at the arena brought a AED defibrillator on to the ice and after being applied it got the heart going again. It had stopped.
(Marty used the AED on Cox)
Cox was unconscious, transported by ambulance to the SO General Hospital, stabilized and then sent to Kelowna by air ambulance.
Last report 72 year Harold Cox was conscious, talking to his family but still in serious condition.
Carol Sheridan, Manager of the Parks and Recreation: It is important that our staff be thanked for their quick action and the Society Board should do that.
Harold Cox is a grad of SOHS, circa 1960, played on the Hornets, became a teacher and education professional. Retired to his home town of Osoyoos.
A salute to all those involved in helping out in this situation.
