School District #53
Dear School Trustees:
The Osoyoos & District Arts Council is pleased to be included in the conversation regarding the naming of the theatre at Osoyoos Secondary School.
Research conducted with both the Town of Osoyoos and the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen confirms, as the Arts Council believed, that Osoyoos and Rural Area A were assessed, through the process of Supplementary Letters Patent, the amount of two hundred ten thousand dollars ($210,000) to facilitate the completion of the theatre attached to Osoyoos Secondary School in the late 1970’s.
Because of the taxation put in place and the determination of the community of Osoyoos to see the theatre completed in a manner we could all be proud of, the Arts Council looks forward to the word “Community” being included in new signage for the building.
In the spirit of community, the Osoyoos & District Arts Council will be discussing the possibility of contributing some funds towards the new signage at our next Board meeting in January. We also look forward to future communication between the Osoyoos Concert Society, the South Okanagan Amateur Players, Osoyoos Secondary School and our organization, leading to an understanding of all the party’s needs in the use of the theatre while recognizing that the needs of the students of OSS are paramount.
The Arts Council supports (SOAP) Patrick Turner’s request for Highway 97 signage in relation to the theatre.
Our organization appreciates any opportunity to collaborate with School District tt 53 in new, creative ways to encourage a love of the arts with our community’s young people.
