Couple of discussions needing decisions at the Regional Board
RDOS are recommending that those that dump pay more (about 30 dollars more per tonne above the rate in 2012)
2012 65
2013 72
2014 95
Tonnage of Material buried at Campbell Mtn has fallen off with 42104 tonnes in 2005 to 24195 tonnes in 2012.
Area Director Allan Patton says he agrees increases are needed because of the success of recycling but those increases should be phased in as an increase of almost 50% in a 24 month period is too much. No final decision on this rate has been made. Budget process completes in March.
RDOS staff want to work with Worksafe personnel to reduce the amount of unknown dangerous product coming in the landfill. Large loads with manifests and asbestos and other hazardous products are NOT a problem but many loads come in with hauler not really knowing what is in the load.
Rarely, an alternative Director shows up at the Regional Board table. The RDOS now agrees that person is not paid sufficiently when she/he does so.
The main change is a fee paid to an alternate at Other Meetings – that compensation rises to $162.45/meeting/day
Lets compare
Rural Director gets $1689.28 per month plus $292 for each attending regular board meeting
Alternate Director gets paid the $292 if filling for the director – only $73 a month if never replacing the director. The situation varies in each rural area. The proposal came from Tom Siddon – elected in the larges rural area of the RDOS and utilizes the services of his alternate a great deal.
