1st Update
The travel advisories for the Okanagan Connector and the Coquihalla have both been lifted by DriveBC.
Highway 1 is still closed from Revelstoke to Craigellachie due to a high avalanche hazard. The road is expected to reopen by 11 a.m.
A major storm forecast to dump up to 50 centimetres of snow on already dangerous mountain slopes in southern British Columbia has closed the Trans-Canada Highway because of avalanche risk.
Highway 1 is expected to remain closed in both directions between Craigellachie and Revelstoke because of the high avalanche danger at least until 10 a.m. Friday, according to the DriveBC website.
On the Trans-Canada and Coquihalla highways, 15 to 25 centimetres of snow is expected to fall on mountain passes, with 30 to 50 centimetres expected at the Coquihalla Summit, prompting special warnings for drivers to be prepared for closures and extreme winter conditions before setting out.
