Penmar Community Theatre will get a $125 thousand grant that will be used toward seats, projector equipment and sound curtains.
Penmar Community Arts Society will develop a performing arts centre in the theatre.
Mayor Garry Litke said he supports the society because there is a need in the community for more performing arts space.
“We don’t have enough stages and there’s a pent up demand for a performing arts amenity in this city,” he said. “There is also a good business plan and a motivated group of people who want to do this, so it is worthwhile to support.”
