School Superintendent Bev Young was almost beaming as she presented an annual report on Student Achievement with the 8 page document revealing that ‘the gap’ between all students and aboriginal students is significantly narrowing in reading and writing.
Foundation Skills Assessment results for Grade 4 and 7 are above the provincial average.
Grade 4 Aboriginal results for writing – 73% meet or exceed expectations compared to 56% provincially.
Six year completion rates for the district 76.3% (Aboriginal rate 66.7%)
Challenges: 63% of Grade 10 students say they try their best at school many times or all of the time. 38% of Grade 10 students indicate they participate in extra curricular activities such as clubs or sports. The rates are not declining but are of concern says Young in her report.
