Update: A 19 Year old, Penticton female, operating a Black 2005 Ford Explorer, north on highway 97 at Vaseaux Lake noted the slippery road conditions, and reached down to put the vehicle into four wheel drive. As she did so, the vehicle slid into the south bound lane striking a Red 2008 Ford F150 occupied by a 60 year Oliver male, and his 60 year old female passenger.
Both vehicles suffered significant front end damage with air bags deployed. The Oliver Fire Department was required to cut the door off of the pick up to extract the vehicle’s occupants. All involved parties were transported to Penticton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Ministry of Transportation and Highways crews attended and assisted with traffic control. Highway 97 was closed to both north and south bound traffic for approximately 1 1/2 hours. No charges were pursued.
Many accidents today on Highway 97.
The worst I would think at Vaseux Lake stretch where traffic was stalled for some time. (3:30 to 4:30 pm) – Fire call received at 2:57 pm
Many cars and trucks diverting to the hills to get around the accident scene.
