Osoyoos BC- Impaired Driving Counter-Attack results in Significant Drug Seizure.
On Monday, December 9th, at approximately 8:00 pm, South Okanagan Traffic Services & South Okanagan RCMP members were conducting an impaired driving “Counter-Attack” roadcheck on Hwy 3 in Osoyoos.
At this time an eastbound vehicle aroused the suspicion of an officer, who noted several indicators of criminal behavior. The occupants were subsequently detained and a police service dog was deployed around the vehicle (Police Service Dog “Jet”, a narcotic trained police dog attached to Traffic Services).
The occupants were subsequently arrested & a search of the vehicle recovered 9 lbs of marihuana, 750 grams of cocaine, several containers of various illicit steroids & 197 tablets of suspected oxycodone. Sold on the street, these drugs have a value of over $120,000.000 (photos attached). The 2 males, aged 26 & 28 years old from the Lower Mainland, remain in custody at this time pending further investigation.
On the evening of December 7th, a lock was cut on a shed behind the Smittys restaurant and 3 tires were stolen from inside. A skinny male and a vehicle – possibly a truck with a burned out tail light were seen on a security camera in the darkness. On December 2nd, a local Osoyoos man was convicted for Possessing Stolen Property stemming from the use of a Tim Hortons Card stolen from a vehicle in Osoyoos on September 3rd. The 38 year old man from the Jackpine Lane area of Osoyoos Received 14 days intermittent jail sentence and 6 months Probation.
On Friday November 29th, a 38 year old Kelowna man was arrested in Vernon in possession of a stolen truck. The man has an extensive criminal record and is believed to have been in the South Okanagan area recently when a number of thefts occurred.
Osoyoos RCMP ask the Public to be aware of a 1990’s flat black colored Chevrolet pickup truck. The truck and driver are not from Osoyoos and Police believe they may have been involved in recent thefts in Osoyoos. If a truck of this description is noted in suspicious circumstances please call the Police to investigate.
