Since 1989, the One to One Reading Program has been making a difference in the lives of learners through pairing one coach with one reluctant or struggling reader to read and boost students’ literary skills. This year, we would like to bring this highly successful program to our school. If you, or anyone you know, are able to volunteer 30 min. of your time twice a week to change a student’s life forever, please contact Sonia at smason@sd53.bc.ca before December 19. In the new year, volunteers who come forward will be asked to participate in a 4 hour training session and then must commit to participating in the program at least until the end of March.
This is a perfect opportunity for people in retirement and senior high school students to give back and make a difference. Did I mention you can do it from the comforts of your own home, or even say Mexico? In bringing the program into our school, we are also looking at connecting students and coaches remotely. For more information, also contact Sonia.
