At the moment Okanagan Apple growers are expressing their opinion on the need for an Apple Research and Promotion Agency.
Farmers with two acres or more of apple production are voting on a plebiscite to raise funds for the Industry Council Agency.
Sought is permission to charge a levy of .002 per pound of apples (two tenths of a cent) to fund the research and promotion.
Voting took place in November at local meetings and farmers will be sent a package in the mail by December 15th.
Final Vote is February 15th in Kelowna at the AGM of the BC Fruit Growers Association.
It needs a 65% margin to win and a positive decision would generate over $300 thousand. 40 percent of growers must vote to validate any decision.
