Oliver Parks and Recreation Society delivered a letter to Town Hall Tuesday asking for a change to Bylaw 1244 (Animal Control) that limit some activities on the community park.
The request:
Eliminate off leash dog play dawn to 9am in main park area
Substitute the following:
Dawn to 10 pm – on leash on all parts of the park
Dawn to 10 pm – off leash on one part of the park – Ball Diamonds 4 and 5 (secure fencing) – except when those fields are in use for baseball or other events.
Carol Sheridan, Parks Manager says the Board has requested the change because of safety issues in the main walking area of the park (not fenced). She says the bylaw presently allows dogs off leash on one part of the east side river trail and in the secure fenced area of the main park.
Council has yet to debate the issue or hear delegations on the matter.
