The Hornets are off to a good start to the 2013-14 season as they are ranked #5 in the preseason polls.
This past weekend the Hornets travelled to Kamloops to play in the Westsyde Tournament. The Hornets got off to a good start as they easily handled Sahali 70-49. Gurk Dhaliwal led the team with 23 points, Ravi Bassi was player of the game. In the semi final the Hornets led the entire game enroute to a 86-80 victory. Gurkamal Dhaliwal led the team with 22 points and was named player of the game, Malcolm Heinrichs had 15, and Ravi Bassi had 10The team was starting to show signs of their ranking in this game as they were able to generate solid offense against Fulton ranked #11 in the province.
In the final the Hornets played Norkam. It was a great game as the Hornets jumped out to an early lead which the held until 1:20 in the fourth quarter, when Norkam was able to take a 1 point lead 78-77 lead. The Hornets were unable to convert on their next possession as they turned the ball over and then were forced to foul to get the ball back, allowing Norkam to push the lead to 7. Gurk Dhaliwal hit a long 3 but it was to little to late as the Hornets fell 84-80. Gurk Dhaliwal had 29 and was named tournament all star, Malcolm Heinrichs had 19, and Ravi Bassi and Austin Basso had 10 points each in the loss.
This weekend the Hornets host the 53rd Okana-Qen. The tournament starts of Friday at 9 am with the Hornets playing Rutland of Kelowna, games run all day long with the Final going on Saturday at 3.
The Alumni weekend is planned for December 21st, volleyball will start the day off at 1 pm with basketball finishing the night of with the senior boys game at 6:30 pm.
