
APEX– The B.C. Government is providing $3,000 in Hosting BC grants to support a Canadian Selections Freestyle Skiing event at Apex Mtn, from Dec. 11 to 15th.
BIG WHITE – The B.C. Government is providing $10,500 in grants to help support two major sporting events at Big White.
“It’s exciting to welcome the best athletes from across the country to Apex,” said Linda Larson, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen. “This grant and the Canadian Selections Freestyle Skiing event will bring national attention to our athletes and our region, encouraging aspiring athletes and growing tourism.”
Across the province, 41 events in 24 communities will receive $164,500 in Hosting BC funding, provided by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and administered by viaSport. The grants support a range of events throughout the province, including alpine skiing, fencing, wheelchair rugby and many others.
Hosting BC has invested close to $4 million since 2004 in sporting events across the province.
BC Government provides funds for competitions that support the long-term development of athletes. Grants typically range from $3,000 to $15,000, depending on the level of competition.
The 2014 IPC Para-Snowboard Cross World Cup tournament (January 23-26, 2014) at big White will get a grant of $7,500, while the Sport Chek Snowboard Cross National Championships (March 27-30, 2014) will receive a $3,000 grant.
