Since being elected two years ago – trustees of School District #53 (Okanagan Similkameen) have a taken a number of steps to make educational decision making – more public:

1. A public session for presentations and questions will precede each Board meeting.

2. The Education Committee held two week prior to a regular meeting will now be open to press and public.

3. The district conducts Learning Forums for parents and citizens in each community in the district.

4. Budget sessions are open to Parent Advisory Committees, teachers and CUPE members.

5. One trustee is assigned to each PAC in the district who attends the advisory meetings

6. Meetings are held in each community once a year to report on success

7. The district held a meeting to design its mission statement involving parents, students, teachers, management and trustees. (see above)
