On November 18, 2013 an Oliver business owner reported the overnight theft of tools from his yard site located in the 6800 Block of Hwy 97. This is the second incident in the past 5 days and is similar to a theft reported on November 13th where unknown person(s) cut a 3 foot square in his chain link fence and gained access to his yard. Stolen items include a large tool box and a set of torque wrenches.
On November 18, 2013 an Oliver business owner reported the overnight break and enter of his fruit stand located in the 5400 Block of Hwy 97. The thief broke the lock and gained access to the building however nothing was taken as no valuables were stored inside.
On November 19, 2013 Oliver RCMP received a report of an abandoned bike located on the corner of Kettle Court and Kettle Avenue. The bike Supercycle 21 speed mountain bike with ‘Nitrous 24’ written on cross bar. The owner can recover this item by attending to the Oliver Detachment and providing a more detailed description.
On November 19, 2013 at 8:22 AM Oliver RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision, with injuries, on Camp McKinney Rd near Oliver. Police attendance located an overturned 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier off road near the 2000 block of Camp McKinney Rd. The 20 year old male driver was located and was transported to SOGH with a possible head injury. Investigation confirmed that the driver was a Vehicle Impound Candidate and that alcohol was likely a precipitating factor. No other vehicles were involved and there was no property damage other than the vehicle that was involved in the crash.
On November 19 2013 Oliver RCMP received a report of a collision between a vehicle and a skateboarder on Gala St, adjacent to the SOSS high school. Complainant and driver reported a group of male skateboarders came out of the exit lanes by the high school on Gala St and one of them hit his car. The complainant stated some of the males swerved around his vehicle while one skateboarder hit his car, breaking the passenger side mirror. The skateboarder got up and continued on his way. Persistence by the driver of the vehicle allowed for him to obtain the name of the youth and then to report the incident to the police. Although no charges were pursued in this incident future incidents of a similar nature will result in a charge against the offender.
On 2013-11-24 at 0227 hrs Police were called to assist fire in the area of the 5600 block of Hwy 97 as a result of a report from an Oliver resident seeing a pine tree on fire in that area. Attendance confirmed that branches from the tree had been pruned and were laying under the pine tree and that they had been lit on fire causing damage to the pine tree as well as to the corner of the vacant trailer. Joint police and Fire Department investigation failed to identify either suspect or motive. Witnesses are requested to contact the Oliver Detachment directly or through Crime Stoppers.
