About 50 people representing many organizations in Oliver attended a wonderful meeting tonight at the Catholic Church.
Highway to Healing (sponsored by Oliver Rotary) had brought together families of children that had very serious, life threatening diseases, who needed treatment now or had just that … in the past.
Lisa Needoba spoke (see previous story), Chloe’s dad Jon Kroeger spoke with Chloe in his arms, Sanda Cragg spoke about her grandson Hunter Miller (now at the coast for a checkup), Shawna Michaud spoke about her daughter Brittany who received a heart transplant and Riley Martin spoke about his accident, treatment and recovery – all talking about the tremendous support of the community they live in.
Relatives of Lynnea, or “NeNe” Holmstrom also spoke about how a very young girl less than 2 years old from Oliver just diagnosed with cancer and being treated in Vancouver.
It was a night of stories, tears and tissue as many people “welled up” with emotion on hearing the first hand accounts – many with very happy endings.
Pictured above is Beverly Pottinger (Nunes Pottinger) making a sizeable donation to the cause – presenting a cheque to Ernie Dumais and Bob Currie of Rotary.
Many organizations in Oliver help children and families in need. The Lion’s Club, The Elks Club, The Royal Canadian Legion, The Kiwanis and the Shriners who raise millions for children’s hospitals and buses to help with transportation. A representative of those organizations attending.
Many of you will want to help. In the weeks ahead ODN will supply further information on how to get a hold of “Highway to Healing”.
