February 23, 1955 – November 18, 2013
It is with deep inconsolable sadness that the family of Norma Elizabeth Shaw announces her passing on November 18th. Norma fought her illness as hard as she could and we are very proud of her strength and dignity throughout her ordeal and in her final days.
Norma was born in Oliver to Russell and Lena Shaw on February 23, 1955, the youngest of four girls. She was predeceased by her sister Regina Lorraine on Aug 28, 1952, her father Russell on Oct 7 2005 and her mother Lena on Oct 3 2011.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her partner, Greg Jones, her two sisters, Sandra (Frank) Jones and Brenda Shaw. She also leaves to mourn her nephew Dean (Elena) Jones and children Alessandra and Dylan and niece Angela deKergommeaux and children Sophie and Nicolas as well as many cousins, great cousins and a multitude of friends. She also leaves to mourn her stepdaughter Pam Jones and her children Ryan, Daniel, Liam, Graham, Samantha and Avery.
Norma enjoyed camping with her family and all the cousins on our many excursions. She enjoyed the company of her cousins, especially Rob Shaw and Donna Taylor Rinfret. They were the closest in age and seemed to always hang out together.
Norma took all of her schooling in Oliver and graduated from Southern Okanagan Secondary School in 1973. She was awarded a bursary and decided to take a business course from the Okanagan College in Kelowna but first spent a year working at the Oliver Co-Op in the offices.
After college, Norma came back to Oliver and started as Accountant of the Oliver Credit Union in 1975. In 1985 she was offered the Head Accountant position with the North Shore Credit Union and decided to make a move to the coast. Norma was employed there until 2002 when she decided she wanted to come home.
After Norma moved home, she started her own little business called PC Creations and was quite successful at it. She was a consummate photographer; homemaker and was an excellent cook, bakery chef as well as putting up preserves for sale and home use. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing many of her own clothes as well as dresses for Mom.
A funeral service officiated by Rev. Heather Burton will be held at 1:00 pm Monday November 25th at the Oliver United Church. Interment and committal will follow at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.
