Wilfred Riplinger, Aug 13, 1942 – Nov 7, 2013
On Thursday November 7th, Wilfred George “Rip” Riplinger passed away at Penticton Hospital surrounded by family at the age of 71 years.
He was predeceased by his brothers Andy and Albert and sisters Eva, Ida and Geri.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family including his wife Andrea; brothers Augi and Ed; children; Mike (Vicki) and his grandchildren Dillon and Kenna and their mother Sandra; his daughter Sheri and her son Tanner; grandchildren Alyssa, Jayden and Jacob Shull and Ava and Thys Van Spronsen.
Wilf came to Osoyoos at the age of five. In 1966 he moved to Vancouver until 1973 when he came back to Osoyoos to continue his Gold Star Drywall company. He also built and owned Village Retreat Cabaret during the 1970’s and built his own home in 1977.
He volunteered with countless community groups and organizations. He joined the Osoyoos Fire Department, Ambulance (past unit chief) the original Search & Rescue and Osoyoos Elks becoming Exalted Ruler in 1978 and was instrumental in the building of the Elks Golden Villa. He coached basketball, hockey (built the first aid room in the arena) and was an avid golfer, curler (past president of the curling club), skeet shooter, bowler, fisherman, pool player, hunter, camper and ball player.
Wilf enjoyed many golf trips across the United States as well as cruises and trips to Mexico, Cuba and Hawaii.
