Abolish the ALR? Lunacy!
Premier Christy Clark, Minister Bill Bennett and the B.C. Liberals have clearly indicated to all British Columbians that they are running a dictatorial style of government.
To abolish or tamper, negatively, with the Agriculture Land Reserve (ALR) is like telling us we cannot grow food, produce on this land of ours! Because there are far more profitable uses that can be made of it? This is not only ludicrous but, “TOTALLY UNTHINKABLE”, since we are losing such land by leaps and bounds each day.
Food production is “The No. 1 Priority” of every nation on this planet or we will all be heading for extinction. Year after year we are losing such cultivatable land to urban sprawl, mining operations, oil and gas exploration/extraction, transportation routes, golf courses, etc. (Is this why we are not hearing about a national park to preserve precious land areas in the Okanagan Valley? A response is expected from our MLA, Linda Larson.)
I and many others agree with Donald Thorsteinson that natural resources belong to The People and should not be exploited by private corporations/enterprises. (We have been and are presently feeling the excessive demands and exploitation of the power corporations along with other privatized companies.)
Free-enterprise has become an uncontrollable monster, especially with a B.C. Liberal government who seems to like looking the other way when controversial issues arise. (It looks more and more likely that The People will have to take control of Government. We can no longer stand back and do nothing.)
Those of you who voted Liberal on May 14, 2013 not only defeated yourselves but, also defeated those who voted differently or not at all. You might also understand that only about half of B.C.s eligible voters cast ballots. Of that 50-55%, about 25-30% were Liberal votes and about 25% were supporters of other parties (This does not tell us that the Liberals really have a governing majority. Many people realize that the electoral system is mighty flawed and our way of government is so partial to 2% of the people. For the rest of us ; social justice, human dignity, happiness and a lot more rights are quickly disappearing.)
We all remember the HST defeat. We are now standing up against the Fortis B.C. issue, along with added support from a strong business sector. Let’s get all the consumers involved in this public matter. We have a lot to gain and also a lot to lose. (We now have the ALR abolition issue to deal with. I’ll assess a report card GRADE of: “Complete Failure” for this government on their recent proposal.)
Sincerely,
James Demetrick
