Rita Helen Murphy passed away peacefully at McKinney Place, Oliver on November 1, 2013, aged 88.
Rita was pre-deceased in 2000 by her husband and best friend of 55 years, Bill Murphy. She is survived by her daughter Sue Gay (Cliff) in Oliver and sons Clive Murphy (Linda) and Ken Murphy (Hilary ) both in England, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Born in England, Rita enlisted in the Armed Forces and at the end of World War 2 married Bill. Rita pursued interests in music and drama as well as enjoying outdoor activities.
In 1984 Rita and Bill immigrated to Oliver to be closer to the Canadian branch of their family.
Rita was an active volunteer in the local Thrift Shop, Red Cross and Sunnybank Auxiliary. She was also an avid Bridge player and active in her Church.
She shared with Bill a love of hiking, camping and exploring the Canadian wilderness. More recently she continued to be active through travel, walking and gardening.
A memorial service to celebrate Rita’s enthusiasm for life will be held on Thursday November 7, 2pm at Valley Congregational Church, Black Sage Road, Oliver.
