The man I knew for fifteen minutes
I knew he must have been special long before I actually met him.
That was because I knew his wife. I had known Sharri for a half a decade or so, as she is the woman who is my mothers caretaker.
A very kind, practical and always ready to help kind of woman, and because of this, I knew the man who stole her heart so many years ago must have something special. During the times we would see each other , she would in passing tell stories of her history.
Little snipits, snapshots if you will, of her husband and their lives together.
None of them boastful or the kind used to impress, they were just what they were, matter of fact stories.
The tales of flying around the central BC, the days of rodeo with the McLean clan and those alike, the life time of horse chiropractoring , a rare gift and a life saver to many Man’s best friends.
I always thought, this was a man I’d like to met someday. The kind of man you imagined who could easily make one feel lacking.
It wasn’t until he fell ill a few years ago, I went to SOGH to say hello and meet him for the first time. It was like I had known him for 100 years, like he was welcoming an old friend . We spoke of his airplane days and you could see, behind our conversation the memories of long ago twinkling in his eyes.
In the fifteen minutes during which our two lives were spent together, two strangers, two men from different generations and nothing more than a casual chat , I had met an incredible, humble man of honour.
Percy Paul Verreault passed away Oct 3 2013 and the world lost another good man.
God speed
