Judge Meg Shaw, Penticton Law Courts today heard submissions from crown and defence on two brothers charged with possessing and throwing a bomb device last August in a residential neighbourhood in Oliver.
23 year old Eric Daoust and his 19 year old brother Stephan have been sent to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam for examination. Both appeared in court today accompanied by the Sheriff Service after 4 days in police custody.
The courtroom was opened late this morning for this one case with 3 reporters and 6 friends and relatives in attendance.
The court will reconvene November 20th to hear more about the assessment. A second court date for a week later has also been scheduled.
The court was told Stephan Daoust is still held on a charge of assault and other counts for throwing a can of bear spray into a house in the 600 block of Earle Crescent in September.
Judge Shaw stated the 30 day assessment is linked to that charge as well.
Investigators with the Oliver RCMP and General Investigation Section (GIS) arrested the brothers without incident on Thursday after a two month long investigation.
The Oliver RCMP began looking into the bombing incident after it went unreported for a day as it was believed to have been a lightning strike. A resident came to the local RCMP office with a piece of metal shrapnel believed to be connected with damage to a homeowners’ garage and a vehicle parked nearby.
