Crowd small but cosy with about 25 people in attendance for tasting of fine single malts from around the world.
Teacher Grant Douglas Stevely thrilled the group with his expertise and stories of distilling, oak casts, the changing demands of consumers moving away from traditional “peaty” scotch whiskeys to single malts from around the world which have a “fruitier” taste and exotic vapours.
Stevely is the own of Dubh Glas – a distillery under construction north of Oliver at Gallagher Lake. Dubh Glas is pronounced “Douglas” – which now makes sense to me.
The event sponsored by the Oliver Rotary Club – 5th annual scotch tasting event – three hours complete with food, conversation and prizes.
