A thief drove a Corvette through a smashed glass panel at Huber Banniser in Penticton Thursday and then outran police officers and made an escape.
The Corvette was last seen racing at speeds above 220 km/h before disappearing into the night north of Summerland.
The car – a silver 2011 Special Heritage Edition Grand Sport Corvette was gone and the dealership a mess.
While police were investigating the break-in, a matching vehicle sped by on a nearby street (Eckhardt) in the direction of Highway 97.
Police decided not to initiate a chase (new procedures) and notify detachments to the north. West Kelowna RCMP were advised that the car was heading north and officers set up a roadblock near the Okanagan Connector. Police believe the driver turned off Hwy before the arriving at the Connector.
