Halloween is approaching quickly, and as per usual you should expect many trick-or-treaters dressed in a variety of costumes, but this year keep an eye out for students from the SOSS Leadership Club.
The members of the leadership club will be doing something a little different this year: they will be collecting non-perishable food items instead of candy. This is because they are taking part in “We Scare Hunger”.
We Scare Hunger was started by Free The Children and each year students all across North America take part in this campaign. No one should go hungry, but 870 million people around the world do every day, so let’s do something about that statistic by starting in Oliver. All the food collected on Halloween night combined with the food drive that students will be holding in school during Halloween week will be given to the Oliver Food Bank. If you live within Oliver town limits, and especially if you live near the schools, keep in mind a student from SOSS might come trick-or-treating for canned goods instead of candy.
