March 6, 1922 – October 13, 2013
On Sunday October 13, 2013, Mrs. Gladys Caughlin, a long-time resident of Oliver, passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Centre at the age of 91 years.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 27th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Anglican Church, with the Rev. Patrick Reid officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
Gladys will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children David (Margaret) of Princeton, Richard (Laura) of OK Falls, Chris of Penticton, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her brother Jack Bousfield of Oliver.
Her husband Nelson (2008), as well as her parents Mr and Mrs Wilfred Bousfield of Oliver, three brothers Wilfred, William, and Frank, and three sisters Elsie, Nancy, and Peggy predeceased her.
Gladys was born at Langley Park, England in 1922. The Bousfield family moved from England to Canada in May 1924 and settled on a farm under the cliffs of North Enderby. During 1934, the family moved to Oliver where Gladys and husband Nelson raised their family. She worked for many years at the local packing house, sorting and packing the various fruits. She loved to garden, take trips to Reno, go camping and fishing and gold panning on their placer claim near Rock Creek.
She loved her family dearly and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnybank Centre and Heritage House for their kind and exceptional care they provided for our mother.
Donations in memory of Gladys may be sent to St. Edward the Confessor Anglican Church (P.O. Box 348, Oliver, BC V0H 1T0).
