Prominent Osoyoos Orchardist and Former Local Radio Host Dies
A big name among South Okanagan orchadists and a voice of the local Portugese community has died.
John Garcia ran an Osoyoos orchard and hosted a weekly Portugese radio show titled The Call of Portugal, which aired in Osoyoos and Summerland in the 1970s and 80s.
Former radio station owner Ken Davis says Garcia was very well respected.
“He was a fabulous fellow, a community leader in the Osoyoos area, not only as an orchardist, but he just loved to come on CKOO and do a broadcast on Monday evenings,” says Davis.
Garcia passed away on Thursday morning.
