SOSS’ PAC met for the first time this school year on Thursday night at 7pm in the SOSS library. There were 14 people present.
PRINCIPAL’S AND VICE-PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
On Wednesday, September 25, 2013, our district had its first inquiry time. Students were dismissed early and staff discussed the following:
Student Connection and Self-Regulation: What is going on in our classrooms. For example, how to deal with students showing up late and submission of late assignments.
Student Regulation: Students will be surveyed to determine how they feel connected to the school. Goal this year is to make specific attachments to students that have fewer than 2 attachments to adults in the school.
TAG: Homeroom wherein teachers monitor attendance and follow student all the way through high school.
Circular Connections: Sharing of resources, discovering how students learn best, cross over from one class to the other. ie. Math and woodwork class and how math is used in both courses.
EAs and teachers collaborating together.
Principal stated that vandalism done to the building will not discourage or derail us. RCMP is dealing with it.
WE Day – hoping to send some students to this event wherein students have the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers.

Events and Sports at SOSS:
Open house at SOOS – over 600 attended. Terry Fox Run took place on September 26, 2013 Aboriginal Dinner – September 26, 2013 Boys volleyball is up and running Field Hockey – there are 3 teams this Fall Grade 8 electives: encompasses study habits. Both the Principal and Vice-Principal will be teaching a component of the electives thereby enabling them to meet every grade 8 student and build connections with them.
New Business:
Two students from the SOSS Jazz Band came and presented band needs. They are looking for a new keyboard and repairs to the guitars and drum kit. Purchase of band jerseys was also discussed. PAC tabled the requests – waiting for more information.
Physical education department head ask PAC for financial assistance to purchase new heart monitors (watch worn by students) to motivate students giving them feedback on their personal fitness levels. PAC granted the purchase of new technology.
Concerns were voiced regarding traffic and students crossing the road in front of the school. Administration is looking into this issue.
No skate boarding or long boarding is permitted on school grounds.
