Below are the ministers and the subject material. Mayor Hovanes said most ministers were new in their posts and all meetings went well with no promises made. Hovanes stressed the need for more council participation at the Union of BC Municipalities Conventions – held annually – as a way of keeping in touch with the provincial government which has supplied a lot of money to Oliver in the last three decades.
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure: Todd Stone – condition of Hwy 97 in downtown Oliver – needs work
Ministry of the Attorney General/Ministry of Justice: Suzanne Anton – policing costs when number of residents goes over 5000 – who pays and who controls staffing levels.
Ministry of Health: Terry Lake – more hospice beds for the elderly needed in Osoyoos and Oliver
Ministry of Community, Sports and Culture: Coralee Oakes – feasibility of a District Municipality – is their a next step? What are the benefits/what are the downsides?
