Oliver Town Council – September 23 2013
1. The town will spend $500 to support a legal effort by BC Irrigation Districts in fighting any rate increase by FortisBC for agricultural water.
Water districts in the Okanagan have found this joint effort useful in the past when approaching the BC Utilities Commission with a united position.
2. The SO Concert Society asked council to favour them with a grant in aide. Council asked the Mayor to write to them with a response. The Town and the RDOS support the Oliver Community Arts Council and that is the body with the budget for support of arts groups.
3. Public Opinion Survey – Council will consider the idea of a survey of all town taxpayers on their feeling and satisfaction levels of Town service. That consideration will take place next year in a priority session after costs have been determined. Most councillors polled did not, at this time, think it was a good use of money.
4. Council decided to have staff prepare a Request for Proposals on the operation of Centennial RV Park and Campsite. Three businesses/organizations had expressed an interest in proceeding to a formal process of selection of a manager and method of payment.
5. Town Manager Tom Szalay told council that a Kelowna group had expressed an interest in developing the land at Centennial Park and further meetings are scheduled with that group to determine the seriousness of their proposals.
