A Change of Command ceremony was held Wednesday at the Seniors Center in Penticton, a symbolic ceremony representing the passing of responsibility, authority and accountability of command from one leader to another.
The evening ceremony saw Captain Kim Schur of Oliver take the reins from Captain Wendy Blomme of the Penticton Army Cadets. Officially the 788 Royal Army Cadet Corps formed in 1919 and active members of the community for over 73 years.
Incoming Captain Kim Schur says, “I am looking forward to the challenge of this new role. 788 has an active range team and Pipes and Drum Band which I am eager to develop.”
Schur is transferring from Oliver where she has been involved in the air cadet program for over 15 years. A move during an already exciting year where she was awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contribution to Canadian youth, military service, and breaking down barriers for women in combat.
Outgoing Captain Blomme is taking over as Commanding officer of the 903 B.C. Dragoons Kelowna after a year of service in Penticton.
