A report on discussions and decisions at meetings or Oliver Town Council on September 9th.
1. Council has decided to spend up to $5000 to transport asphalt millings from the Ministry of Highways for use in back alleys and municipal utility roadways. 6 or 7 roadways will get the treatment in the coming year.
2. Council has decided to wait until the Parks and Recreation (RDOS joint function) has a tentative budget before commenting on it. Parks Society Dave Mattes was seeking input from council on the level of budget increase that might be allowable.
3. Council has decided to set up another account for donations to the Bandai Sister City program. This account would allow expenditures for student travel only.
4. Three council members visited the Constellation Brands Operation – to the north of the Town Monday to tour their production facilities and their upgrades to sewer treatment. Discussion took place with regard to long standing relationships between Constellation and the Town on the treatment of industrial effluent.
5. Contractor Mike Johnson given the go ahead to put in a new sewer line on Cessna Street on the east side of airport at a cost of $88, 199.00. This line will service both the Search and Rescue operational building but also the air cadet hangar when it can be connected.
6. Irrigation turn off dates set by council: October 15. There will be no water in ditch after October 30th. Farmers can get late irrigation at a fee of $1.44/acre/day.
7. Council says it does support the Fortis “Energy Diet” Program but will not subsidize the fee of only $65 to get an energy assessment.
