On August 30th, Police received a report that overnight thieves had climbed into a locked / fenced compound at Lordco and stole several cases of oil and 40-50 used batteries. This is the third theft of vehicle batteries over the last several months. If anyone has information about someone in possession of a large number of vehicle batteries please call the Osoyoos RCMP.
On August 30th, 2013 Police were called to the Oasis RV Resort as people there had apprehended a man stealing a radar detector from a vehicle there. Police took custody of the 20 year old man and arrested him for theft. The man who recently moved to Osoyoos from Penticton is well known to Police and is due to appear in court in October to answer to the charges.
There have been more bicycles stolen over the last week in Osoyoos;
– On August 30th, it was found that 2 bikes had been stolen from an underground storage area in the 2400 block of Lakeshore Drive. The stolen bikes are described as 1) an older men’s 10 speed black mountain bike, 2) a 5 year old blue and black specialized 10 speed men’s mountain bike.
On August 31st, it was noted that a black and white men’s Schwinn mountain bike had been stolen from a carport in the 4200 block of Oleander Drive.
On Sept 2nd, it was found that overnight thieves had stolen a boys BMX bicycle
from the 6700 Block of Ponderosa Drive. The boy’s bike had been locked up to a vehicle at the time it was stolen.
It is likely that the same thief or thieves are responsible for the large number of bicycles being stolen in the Osoyoos area. As bikes are large not the easiest item to hide it is possible that someone will see them being hidden or transported. On the morning of Sept. 1st, 2013, an off duty Police officer noted a suspicious vehicle with a male and female behind the Best Western in Osoyoos. Police investigated and found the vehicle to have a stolen license plate attached. The 25 year old male owner of the car is under investigation for possession of stolen property. The man who recently moved to Osoyoos from the North Okanagan is known to Police for possessing stolen property.
