Dateline Oliver – Following a gruelling playoff run that included six games in two days and a semi-final win over the Osoyoos Owl Pub, the Oliver Legion Mixed Slo-pitch team captured their second consecutive Division B championship with a decisive victory over the Summerland Credit Union 20-11. All games were played as part of the 2013 Randy Newell Wind-Up tournament for teams participating in the 10 team seniors mixed league that stretches from Osoyoos to West Kelowna.

It was a very satisfying win for Oliver Legion Co-Manager Jeff Luypen. “We battled injuries all season long. The team really gelled in the second half and we played some of our best baseball in the Summerland tournament. It was great to see different players contribute to our success at different times. It was truly a solid team effort.”
Co-Manager Gloria Luypen was delighted to see George and Marie Boychuk (retired former Oliver Legion mixed slo-pitch team manager and is wife) provide moral and vocal support and help out with score keeping duties during the tournament. She and husband Jeff were also thankful for the support of others such as Cathy Thompson for taking on score keeping duties during the tournament and Dale Dodge for hosting the team’s post-tournament party. “I’m hopeful that our success on the field will attract more ball players to come and join our team for 2014.”
