Serious burns and smoke inhalation for a young person – the result of camper trailer fire Wednesday in Oliver’s Centennial Park. No confirmation yet where the travellers were from.
Oliver RCMP Sgt. Ken Harrington says the fire was not suspicious but is being investigated by fire officials.
“I believe that the quick action of our Fire Department probably saved a life.”

Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham says the fire is under investigation.
Graham says the youngster received burns to 40% of his upper body and was flown to Vancouver General Hospital – Burn Unit.
8 year old Cody O’Connor was identified by the operators of the Campsite. Ramsey DePrez, the father of the boy said he was devastated and still trying to figure out what was going on.
The operators of Centennial Park says the young boy was planning on attending a local school as his mom is one of the park managers and the couple was planning to stay in Oliver.

RCMP News Release -August 28th 16:22 Hours the Oliver Detachment RCMP responded to an RV fire at the Centennial Campground located at 256 Fairview Road, Oliver. On arrival at the scene the Fire Department and Oliver Emergency Services were present and involved. A young male, that was inside the RV, had been removed by members of the Fire Department and had suffered injuries as a result of the fire. This youth was transported to the South Okanagan General Hospital and then to a burn unit in the lower mainland. The injuries are believed to be serious but non life threatening.
Oliver Fire Chief (Dan Skaros) and his team conducted an on scene investigation and subsequently confirmed to the Oliver RCMP member that the fire was non-suspicious.
This is an unfortunate event that could have been substantially more devastating without the quick response and professionalism of our local Fire Department.
