Challenge Penticton Week now started
There are several events set to take place beginning today, Wednesday, leading up to the triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Today – a Tribute to Sport and Athlete parade from Lakeshore Drive to Gyro Park at 4 p.m., with an expo, featuring a BBQ, a party and a beer garden, starting at 5 p.m. at the park.
Thursday, the expo will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the beer garden open from 2 to 10 p.m. A float down the Okanagan River Channel will be a highlight.
Friday’s events include an underpants run, the expo, Skaha Beach Day, the beer garden and a street dance from 6 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, the expo continues and there will be a bike check in for athletes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
More than 1,300 athletes are expected to participate in the triathlon, including a 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle and 42.2 km run, on Sunday.
Close to 4,000 volunteers will be on hand to assist on race day.
