These are picker’s accommodations as they are offered in the United States.
If conditions up here were anywhere near this, I’d predict that we’d have
better and cleaner orchard labourers among us for the summer, with no
cause for complaint. While I’m sure there are reasons Canadian orchardists
cannot supply similar accommodation for reasons I’m unaware of, I think that
a communal effort could be made to raise the standard of accommodation
presently offered here in the Okanagan. In view of this year’s comments regarding
pickers, I don’t see a down side to better accommodations.
