We are issuing a Boil Water Notice (BWN) for In-Town and Rural System #1 domestic water users because of water main disturbances in the Hollow Street construction area. The Town suspected that we may have to go to an advisory or boil water notice at some point during construction because of water being turned on and off, water main tie in’s to existing infrastructure, water service swing overs and using the hydrants in the area for compaction and dust control. These all contribute to disturbing the water lines even more and bringing out the extra sediment build up in that areas water infrastructure.
We have consulted the Interior Health Authority (IHA) and they also thought it would be in our best interest to protect our water customers from the increased turbidity in the water which bacteria can hide behind. Although most of the disturbances are in one area of Town, the water system cannot be solely isolated in that area and the disturbances could affect customers in other areas of Town over time. We are chlorinating the systems and will be water sampling and monitoring the chlorine residual levels for the next week in hopes that we can terminate the BWN. This will take at least one and a half (1.5) weeks at the earliest because of the repetitive clean samples required to come back consecutively in a row.
The Town of Oliver is sorry for any inconveniences at this time. An further inquiries can contact our Public Works department at 250-485-6213. Thank you for your patience.
