The province of BC is now offering incentives to municipalities and rural areas for recycling material that can be sold.

$38.00 per household is a tremendous cash bonus that can be used to offset the costs of residential recyling.

The nature of recycling is to take material out of the garbage stream and the province will start a new program next year that will add a cost to every item sold and that fee will encourage more recycling in BC

The Regional District heard a presentation on this two weeks ago but today after a long in-camera meeting decided to proceed and inform the province. The RDOS has until September 16th to accept the Multi-Material Curbside Collection Incentives.

All contracts with garbage pickup contractors will have to be renegotiated.

Contracts with BFI expire June 2016. No word on whether these contracts have been renegotiated.
