Update –
The 42-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old Penticton teen will remain in custody as he undergoes a 30 day psychiatric assessment.
Defence lawyer Jim Pennington told the court his client who did not appear in court, was not feeling up to par and had suicidal inclinations. He is not names nor the victim.
Charges were read this morning in a provincial court today against an unnamed manwho police allege assaulted a teenager Sunday in a remote location near Penticton.
Charges to be heard today:
1. attempting to choke
2. assault
3.unlawful confinement
4. sexual assault.
On August 11, 2013, a female teenager from Penticton was allegedly confined and sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend also from Penticton. The suspect appears to have then consumed some pills resulting in unconsciousness. The female victim successfully freed herself and then drove herself and the unconscious male back from the remote area at which time she called police.
On August 12, at 3:00 A.M.,Penticton RCMP were advised and attended their location. The unconscious male was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital where he remained under police guard until Tuesday morning. The male was then escorted to Penticton Detachment and remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Penticton court.
