Update 9am Tuesday: – Neighbours canvassed – here is the current story – car in driveway off alley (600 block Earle Crescent) hit by lightning Sunday morning – loud noise heard. Picture of car taken in the morning.
Evidence taken to police Monday and they determined not lightning related but that underneath the car – there was damage to the vehicle and the concrete. Shrapnel may have travelled into two neighbouring garages. The word “pipe bomb” was used by those speaking to ODN. No injuries reported. Extent of damage to car not determined. Exact nature of explosive device not determined.
Nothing further is known at this time. Sgt. Ken Harrington would not comment to ODN this morning. Harrington says an official release will be made sometime today. Yellow police tape has expanded to cover the rear of a number of homes on the alley and no one from the public is allowed into that specified area.
There is a daycare in the area and the operators have been spoken to as there is no further danger.
