The BC Wildfire Branch responded to reports of 76 new fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre region, including the Okanagan in the last few days.
Fire Information Officer, Melissa Welsh says most of the fires were small spot size burns that were handled by initial attack crews.
“The increase in fire activity in the region is an issue to us for the sheer amount of fires we are responding to.”
In the Penticton region crews had to deal with five fires Saturday and Two on Sunday.
Only two of those fires broke out of the ‘spot fire’ category.
•Oliver at Wolf Cub Creek grew to .6 of a hectare
• Summerland is listed as .2 of a hectare
Fire crews are in mop-up stage on both fires.
In the Vernon area crews responded to three spot fires on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Welsh says people are doing an excellent job of reporting fires as they start, this helps crews to get to the fires early enough to control them.
