Hedley residents have expressed solid support for a proposed 20-metre cellular tower that would be installed within the community.
One hundred and forty-three of the 165 Hedley residents who cast ballots in a non-binding opinion poll conducted by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Saturday voted in favour of the tower.
The Regional District conducted the polling to assist Area ‘G’ Director Angelique Wood in determining the disposition of Hedley residents toward the construction of the monopole cellular tower within the community.
“We’ve seized the opportunity to gauge residents’ feelings about a tower proposed for the middle of Hedley,” said Director Wood. “We’re pleased to see such a big voter turnout, both from town and the Reserve.”
Telus, the service provider, requires a letter of concurrence from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen in order to move forward with installation of the tower.
Those polled were asked “Are you in favour of a 20-metre monopole being installed at 796 Scott Avenue for cellular phone and data service.”
The polling was open to all residents of Hedley, including members of the Upper Similkameen Indian Band, who live within the proposed tower’s service area.
