Vera Marlais
March 1, 1925 – August 2, 2013
On Friday August 2, Mrs. Vera Marlais (nee Burak) of Oliver passed away peacefully after a long illness at McKinney Place ECU at the age of 88 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Michael; two infant babies; sisters Luba and Anne; her parents as well as her niece Nina Mary.
Vera will be fondly remembered by her loving chosen family: Eleanar Tomlin and family; Dan & Karen Skaros; grandchildren Rebecca, Ryan and Justice Skaros; great-granddaughter Hayley Dezall; twin sister Nadia Hargreaves as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Vera worked as a secretary at the Mac & Fitz Packinghouse and as a bookkeeper/secretary (stenographer) at the Haynes Packinghouse.
She enjoyed travelling and returned to Michael’s home in Yugoslavia and toured Europe.
Vera was an active member of the ACW with the Anglican Church until approximately 2006.
She was and very active volunteer in Oliver right up until her hospitalization. Vera was a valued member of the Hospital Auxiliary for nearly 40 years, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Candy stripe program, and the Sunnybank Auxiliary. She also loved to bake and her baking was used for bake sales, fund raising, gifting to businesses, friends and shut-ins.
When you mention Vera, everyone has a favourite memory of her, her baking, perogies, cakes, cream puffs or cookies delivered in her prized Barracuda.
Donations are gratefully accepted for the SOGH Palliative Care or the South Okanagan Health Care Auxiliary.
A graveside service will be held announced and held in September.
