On August 3rd, 2013, at approximately 1:30PM, Oliver RCMP and South Okanagan Traffic Services responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle incident on Highway 97, at Road 2, just South of Oliver, BC. Upon arrival, members of the Oliver Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service were already on scene providing assistance to an injured 40 year old Oliver male. Witnesses on scene advised that the male was riding a yellow Gio Scooter (Electric) northbound on the shoulder of Highway 97 when he suddenly crossed the fog line (left) and was struck by a Blue 2005 Toyota Tacoma being driven northbound by a 23 year old Oliver Male. The scooter became trapped under the front end of the Tacoma and the rider was thrown forward onto the pavement. The male was subsequently transported via ambulance to Penticton Regional Hospital where he received treatment for serious but non-life threatening injuries and was held overnight for observation. There were no injuries reported by the driver or passengers in the Tacoma. There was significant front end damage to the front end of the Tacoma and the Gio Scooter was damaged beyond repair. Speed is not believed to be a factor. The matter is still under investigation by South Okanagan Traffic Services.
