The Osoyoos RCMP are investigating the death of a cyclist who was struck and killed Monday evening alongside Highway 97.
The incident happened north of Osoyoos around 10 p.m. near 122nd Avenue.
Findings from the scene examination show that Michael Geoffrey Holmes, a 52-year-old local resident, was laying on the road at the time he was struck by a Mazda sedan. The occupants of the vehicle stopped and spoke with investigators at the scene, saying they were travelling northbound on the highway when the collision occurred.
The crash took place in a rural agricultural area with no lighting. Holmes was been wearing dark clothing when he was struck and was not equipped with any bicycle safety gear.
